Paint on Mirror

Painting on a mirror sounds a little complicated at first, but understand that you only paint on glass, and craft supply stores carry a variety of glass paints. You have several options for painting on a mirror, including covering the entire surface to reuse a mirror or only painting a part, which makes you have a functional decorative reflector.

Preparation

Cleaning the mirror with standard glass cleaners like Windex helps remove dust, dirt and oil so the paint adheres well. Preparing a mirror in a location where you plan to paint a mirror reduces handling and ultimately prevents oil from your hands from reaching the clean glass.

If the mirror has a frame, consider removing it before painting. This step allows you to paint to the edge of the mirror without moving the paint to the frame. After the paint Distressed convex mirror dries, the frame is easy to place over the finished image.

Paint

You have two paint options for glass painting: transparent and opaque. Transparent paint lets you see through paint, similar to stained glass. You can't see clear reflection looking through transparent paint into a mirror, but transparent paint allows light to pass through, resulting in a slightly background image.

Frosted glass paint, on the other hand, is a solid paint that, once applied, you cannot see. Some of the peak performance of opaque glass paint occurs after baking and being cured because it is intended to decorate functional kitchen equipment and is resistant to microwave heating and dishwashing machines. Therefore, choose air dried acrylic glass paint for blurry results.

Application

Synthetic or natural fiber brushes are suitable for applying paint on a mirror, and this tool is recommended for painting freely. Stencils don't require too much precision because the outline has been cut, which eliminates fine handwork on the edges of the image. In this scenario, use stick-on stencils and sponges to apply any type of paint. Blurry paint is easier to coat because of its rich color, so you can use a paint brush after a stencil application to decorate an image with fine detail.

Variation

Mirror-coated whiteboard and magnetic primer produce dual functional message boards. Prepare a mirror with a glass cleaner similar to the preparation for the picture and add two or three layers of magnetic primer. After the coat dries, even with a few vintage convex mirror layers of whiteboard paint, strong magnets stick tightly to the mirror.

Two layers of blackboard paint also create a flat, rich black writing surface. Cover the surface of the new whiteboard with a layer of chalk and then remove the chalk residue with a whiteboard eraser preparing the board for writing the chalk.
