We were at the height of summer, so we thought it would be more appropriate to write about the sunburst mirror. Perhaps one of our favorite mirror designs, the sunburst is made for your summer interior, but this versatile design can also look fantastic displayed throughout the year in your home that offers an amazing burst of light. We always appreciate the sunburst mirror but when doing some research we found there were more sunburst mirrors than those that really filled the eyes.
The Origin of the Sunburst Mirror
The sunburst mirror has an interesting history dating from the 17th century. During the 17th century the Catholic Church began to use monstrances above or changed this Decorative convex mirror intricate design which consisted of decorative stands surrounded by gliding sunlight which showed what we know today as a sunburst style. These monstrances are often found in churches in Italy that are displayed on the altar. The first mirror was very small and convex and it was only at the end of the 17th century that mirror production became more established and the mirror finally grew in size.
In the early 19th century the production of mirrors finally took off as decorative and mirror accessories very popular in Europe and America. We cannot be absolutely certain when the first mirror of the sunburst style in the same design that we know today was first produced, but research shows it could be anytime in the 19th century.

Between the 1950s and 60s, the sunburst mirror had a slight change similar to the mirror pictured below, these mirrors were known as starburst mirrors. Usually they display small circle pieces and other decorative features on the light ... But this mirror is still often referred to as a sunburst mirror. When you hear the term mirror Starburst, it probably refers to a sunburst mirror but may have further decorative features.
